Sod the EuroNCAP! Why should we listen to so-called "Road Safety Experts" telling us to buy overpriced new cars,with stupid gimmicks,and which depreciate faster than older cars? Simply because they are wealthy enough to buy a new, safe car does not mean they can tell the less-well-off to upgrade to a newer car. Besides, when I get my first car in the next few months, I shall choose an old banger, because they are cheaper, depreciate less and have much more character and appeal than new cars.

As said the whole point of this test is to compare old cars vs new. A Volvo C30 would plow trough that 940 as well. This is just to bust the common myth that old big cars are so safe.

Just to set a few things straight: 1) Yes, the Volvo is old and the Renault is new. That's the whole point of the test: newer cars are safer. 2) The Volvo has a longitudinal engine, which got pushed to the side in the collision. 3) The collision was not head-on because head-on collisions are very rare in real life. Offset collisions like this one are much more common. 4) EuroNCAP includes both offset and full-width frontal collision tests, in addition to side impact, pedestrian etc.
