yeah sure car safety is important and yada yada basic physics but I dont see why everyone is so super obsessed about it. For all you know you could be hit by a car walking across the street. People take so many stupid risks in their daily lives that it's funny to see how they put so much of an emphasis on driving a "safe" car. It's like disease everyone is afraid of sars or h1n1 but way more people die of the seasonal flu each year.

@phixxwutwut are you really going to say to an engineer that a head on collision where two cars going at 40 mph to each other is not going to add the same equal collateral damage as a 80mph car going straight into a wall... its basic physics two objects going in opposite directions meet = force of car 1 + force of car 2... sure the camry has more momentum which would damage the yaris more

actually his comment is correct, if badly worded. Each car is travelling at 40 mph, so thats 80mph of force that has to go somewhere. so yes, it is effectively like 1 car travveling at 80.

@trousien sorry to bother you, but you dont just add the miles per hour and arrive at a new miles per hour if you slam into a wall. the force of two cars colliding head on is MUCH more than going into a wall.

I assume they mean combined speed of 80 MPH, the Yaris driver certainly looks survivable nevertheless. I'd say they both are pretty safe machines.
